Alongside my larger research and teaching activities, I regularly develop smaller independent design projects in which I experimentally explore material, form, construction and scenarios of use. I am particularly interested in how simple design or technical principles can give rise to distinctive objects and prototypes. The projects reflect my enjoyment of physical design and making, and of translating concepts into tangible spatial and material artefacts.
The selected objects explore reduced geometries, direct construction principles and the relationship between structural logic and visual expression. Physical prototyping is used to test how materials, joints, tension and proportion can produce distinct forms and experiences.

Interactive Light
The interactive light is conceived as a gesture-controlled, spatially mobile lighting system for large tables. A shallow ceiling element contains sensors, motors and control electronics. From there, three cables run via spatially distributed pulleys to the corner points of the luminaire. By regulating the cable lengths individually, the light can move three-dimensionally through the room and travel precisely between different areas of the table. Hand movements are detected by an integrated LiDAR sensor and translated into changes in light and position. The light responds to different scenarios of use, including reading, shared meals and concentrated work. Its visible cable system makes the technical logic comprehensible and becomes part of the design itself.
